Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (11 1/4 ounces)
- 1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 sticks unsalted butter (1 cup)
- 1 1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar (8 3/4 ounces)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (1 3/4 ounces)
- 1 Large egg plus 1 egg yolk
- 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon plain greek yogurt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 3/4 cups milk chocolate chips
- 1 jar Nutella
Directions
1. | |
Line 1 - 2 plates with parchment paper. Using 1 teaspoon and 1 spoon, scoop 30 separate teaspoons of Nutella onto the plate(s) and place the plate(s) in the freezer for at least 1 hour.
2. | |
Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper.
3. | |
Whisk flour and baking soda together in medium bowl; set aside.
4. | |
Heat 12 tablespoons butter in a skillet over medium-high heat until melted, about 2 minutes. Continue cooking, swirling pan constantly until butter is dark golden brown and has nutty aroma, 1 to 3 minutes. Remove skillet from heat and, using heatproof spatula, transfer browned butter to large heatproof bowl. Stir remaining 4 tablespoons butter into hot butter until completely melted.
5. | |
Add both sugars, salt, and vanilla to bowl with butter and whisk until fully incorporated. Add egg and yolk and yogurt and whisk until mixture is smooth with no sugar lumps remaining, about 30 seconds. Let mixture stand 3 minutes, then whisk for 30 seconds. Repeat process of resting and whisking 2 more times until mixture is thick, smooth, and shiny. Using rubber spatula or wooden spoon, stir in flour mixture until just combined, about 1 minute. Stir in chocolate chips, giving dough final stir to ensure no flour pockets remain.
6. | |
Take the plate(s) of Nutella scoops out of the freezer. Measure 1 heaping tablespoon of the cookie dough, and roll it into a ball, then flatten on the palm of your hand. Place 1 chilled scoop of Nutella in the center of the dough, then wrap the dough around the Nutella. Roll the dough into a ball. Place the dough ball on the cookie sheet and flatten very gently with your hand. Repeat with the rest of the dough and Nutella scoops, placing the dough 2 inches apart.
7. | |
Bake the cookies for 9 - 11 minutes. They will look underdone, but will continue to cook once out of the oven. Let the cookies sit for 2 minutes on the baking sheets, then transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely. |
